Taylor began his hockey career playing for the St. Lawrence University Saints. He played 145 career between 2003 and 2007 with the Saints, and recorded 29 goals and 50 assists for 79 points in that time.
In 2007, Taylor signed with the Texas Wildcatters of the ECHL. In the 2007-08 season, Taylor played in 57 games with the Wildcatters, scoring 25 goals and adding 20 assists. He also earned 49 penalty minutes and had a plus-23 rating during that time. He also recorded two hat tricks on the season with Texas, including a four point night on February 8, 2008 against the Columbia Inferno. Taylor also ended his season with the Wildcatters on a high note, recording 30 points in his 26 games after the new year.
On March 5, 2008, the Toronto Marlies signed Taylor to a professional try-out contract. He appeared in 13 games for the Marlies at the end of the 2007-08 season, scoring 2 goals and adding 3 assists. He has yet to play in a regular season game for the Marlies in the 2008-09 season.
